Polls

The Polls module lets staff run community votes in two flavours: Diski embed polls — button-voted embeds rendered by Diski with live (or hidden-until-end) result bars — and Discord native polls, which use Discord's own built-in poll UI. Polls are created from the dashboard or with the /poll command (who can use it is set on the Slash Commands page); members simply vote. When a poll ends, the option with the most votes wins, and Diski posts the winner in your results channel. The Polls tab shows who created each poll and, unless a poll is anonymous, who voted.

Enable Polls

The switch on the status card at the top of the Polls page. Polls is on by default, and the switch saves the moment you click it. When off, new polls can't be created from the dashboard and the /poll command is turned off; the Setup and Create tabs stay visible, and changing anything there asks you to turn Polls on first. Polls that are already running keep running and still end on time, and you can still end or delete them from the Polls tab.

Embed vs Native Polls

Diski embed polls are rendered by Diski as an embed with vote buttons: staff can see who voted on the Polls tab unless the poll is made anonymous, the end time is optional, live results can be shown or hidden until the end, and option labels can be up to 80 characters. Discord native polls use Discord's built-in poll UI: a duration between 1 hour and 32 days is required, results are always shown live, answers are capped at 55 characters, and voters are visible to everyone in Discord's interface.

Default Channel

The channel pre-selected when creating a new poll from the dashboard or with /poll. Each poll can still be posted to any channel — this is just the starting value.

Default Poll Type

Which poll type the create form and the /poll command start on — Diski embed polls or Discord native polls. You can switch type on every poll you create.

Who Can Use /poll

Access to the /poll command is managed on the Slash Commands page (Utility > Commands), together with every other Diski command. By default /poll is admin-only (Manage Server); on that page you can open it up to specific roles or users, or disable it entirely. Dashboard access is unaffected — anyone who can open this page can create polls here.

Embed Color

The accent colour of Diski embed polls, chosen as a hex value. Native polls are rendered entirely by Discord and ignore this setting.

Live Results

Embed polls only. When on, the poll embed shows a live vote bar per option as ballots come in. When off, the embed shows only the total number of ballots until the poll ends — votes are still recorded and the final results are revealed when it ends. You always see live counts on the dashboard either way. Discord native polls always show live results.

Discussion Threads

Opens a discussion thread on the poll message so members can argue about it without cluttering the channel. The switch on the Setup tab is only the default for new polls: every poll you create on the Create tab, or with /poll, can turn it on or off for itself. It works for both poll types, because the thread hangs off the poll message rather than the poll itself. If the thread cannot be created - the bot is missing Create Public Threads in that channel, or the channel has hit its thread limit - the poll is still posted and works normally; only the thread is skipped. Threads are left open when the poll ends.

Ping Roles

Roles that get mentioned in the message when a poll posts, so the people you want voting actually see it. Pick them on the Create tab for each poll — there is no server-wide default — and /poll takes one optional role of its own. Leave it empty and the poll pings nobody. Picking @everyone pings every member of the server, which needs the Mention Everyone permission and should be used sparingly. Up to 10 roles per poll. Only the roles you pick are ever mentioned: text typed into the question can never trigger a ping, and roles deleted after the poll posted are simply ignored.

Creating a Poll

Pick a type, write a question (3–300 characters) and 2–10 options with optional emoji, then choose the channel, duration and whether voters may pick multiple options. Embed option labels are capped at 80 characters; native answers at 55 (a Discord rule). The poll is posted to Discord right after you create it — its row in the Polls tab shows "Posting…" until the message is up.

Poll Duration

Discord native polls must run for between 1 hour and 32 days — Discord requires a duration and finalises the poll itself. Diski embed polls can use the same durations or "No end time" to run open-ended until a staff member ends them from the dashboard.

Send Polls Permission

Discord native polls require the bot to hold the Send Polls permission in the target channel. Diski's invite link includes it, but servers that invited Diski before the Polls module launched may not have granted it — re-invite the bot with the current link or grant Send Polls to Diski's role. Embed polls don't need it.

Results Channel

When a poll ends — at its end time, or when staff press End now — the option with the most votes wins, and Diski posts the result here: the winning option and its share of the votes, every option’s final tally, and a link back to the poll. A tie names every option that shared the most votes; a poll nobody voted on says so. It works for embed and native polls with any number of options. Leave it empty and the winner only shows on the poll itself and in the Polls tab. The channel is read when a poll ends, so changing it applies to polls that are still running; polls that were already running before result posting existed never post. Diski needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links there.

Anonymous Voting

Embed polls only. Off (the default): staff can open the voter list on the Polls tab to see who picked each option, and the poll tells members that server staff can see who voted. On: a secret ballot — nobody, staff included, can see who voted, and the poll says so. Polls created before voter lists existed stay anonymous, because they were posted with the promise that voters would never be shown. Discord native polls always show their voters to everyone, so this option does not apply to them.

Who Voted

On the Polls tab, every option shows a small chip under its bar with the faces of its newest voters and how many picked it. Click the chip to see everyone who chose that option, with their Discord name and picture (large lists load more as you go). It is available for embed polls that are not anonymous and for native polls, whose voters are read from Discord; a native poll that is still running shows View voters until Discord's list is loaded.
