Birthdays
Birthdays celebrates your members. Each member saves their birthday with /birthday set, and on the day Diski posts a birthday message at the time you choose — in the member's own time zone — and can give them a birthday role for 24 hours. /birthday upcoming shows who's next, and the dashboard lists every saved birthday. Birthdays is free for every server.
Birthdays
The switch at the top of the Birthdays page. Birthdays is on by default, but Diski does nothing until you pick an announcement channel, a birthday role, or both — members can save their birthdays in the meantime. Clicking the switch saves at once — no Save needed. While it is on and set up, Diski announces birthdays and hands out the birthday role. While it is off, nothing is announced, but members can still save their birthday and everything saved is kept; the settings stay visible, and trying to change one offers to turn Birthdays on. Changes reach the bot at its next check, within about 5 minutes.
Announcement channel
The text channel birthday messages are posted in. Diski needs permission to see the channel and send messages there; if it can't, it tries again later the same day, so fixing the permission in time still gets everyone celebrated. Leave it empty to skip announcements and only give out the birthday role.
Birthday message
What Diski posts, up to 500 characters. Variables: {user} mentions the member, {username} is their name without a ping, {age} is the age they turn and {server} is the server name. {age} only appears for members who shared their birth year and is left out for everyone else, so write the message so it reads well either way. A birth year is used for nothing but {age}: /birthday view and /birthday upcoming never show anyone else their age. When several members have their birthday at the same moment, their messages are grouped into one post. Leave it empty to use the default: Happy birthday {user}! 🎂
Ping role
An optional role to mention with each birthday announcement — for example a Birthday Squad role members can opt into. @everyone can't be used. For the mention to notify anyone, the role must be set to mentionable in your server settings, or Diski needs the Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles permission. Birthday messages only ever ping the birthday members and this role, never @everyone, @here or a role written into the message.
Server time zone
The time zone used for members who haven't picked their own (default UTC). Members choose theirs with the timezone option of /birthday set, so everyone is celebrated at the right local time wherever they live. Daylight saving time is handled automatically.
Announcement time
The hour birthdays are announced on the day, in each member's own time zone. Diski checks every few minutes, so a message goes out within about 5 minutes of that hour. If Diski is offline at the time, it catches up later the same day. Each birthday is celebrated once a year — and never twice within 300 days, even if a member changes their birthday or time zone (say, from December 31 to January 1) — and a member who saves their birthday on the day itself, after this hour, is celebrated within a few minutes. February 29 birthdays are celebrated on February 28 in years without a February 29.
Birthday role
An optional role Diski gives members for 24 hours from their announcement, then takes back — even if Diski restarts in between. Diski's own role must sit above it, and it can't be @everyone, a managed role (bot and Server Booster roles) or a role with moderation or admin permissions — Diski never hands those out, and skips the role if it gains such permissions later. With only a role set (no announcement channel), a role Diski can't give holds the celebration back until later the same day, so fixing it in time still gets everyone celebrated. A member who already had the role before their birthday keeps it.
Commands
/birthday set saves your birthday in this server: the day and month, plus an optional time zone and an optional birth year — only used if this server's birthday message shows ages ({age}). Running it again replaces your birthday; leaving the year out removes a year you shared before, while your time zone stays until you change it (pick “Use the server's time zone” to go back). /birthday remove takes your birthday off, /birthday view shows yours or another member's birthday, and /birthday upcoming lists the next 10 birthdays in the server. Neither /birthday view nor /birthday upcoming shows anyone else's age — only your own /birthday view shows yours. Birth years that would make someone younger than 13 aren't accepted.
Upcoming birthdays
Every birthday saved in this server, soonest first, with each member's time zone — never their age or birth year. Countdowns use each member's own time zone. Remove an entry that is wrong or that a member asked you to take down; removing a birthday doesn't let the same member be celebrated a second time in the same year. When a member leaves the server, Diski deletes their birthday; anyone who left while Diski was offline stays listed until you remove them, but is never announced.
